Elton John and Billy Joel have been touring together for several years now, but their most recent tour was cancelled due to Joel's illness. In the recent number of Rolling Stone Elton John made comments about Billy Joel, and urged Joel to seek proper rehabilitation to get rid of his alcohol problems. Elton told RS that it's very frustrating to work with Joel when you never know if the show is going to be cancelled or not. He also said that Billy Joel should start writing new songs again. Elton called their relationship "though love".
Billy Joel have now responded to these accusations, Billy Joel: "I've worked with Elton for such a long time and I've enjoyed our relationship too much to let something as random as these comments change my affection for him, Elton is just being Elton". While he at least officially seems to forgive Elton, it's hard to believe that their personal relationship wouldn't have taken any damage from these public statements, it could very well be that it will be some time before we see Elton and Billy together on the stage again.
