Review: Ray Davies - See My Friends

Another duet album has arrived to the shelves this year, this time it's the former Kinks front man Ray Davies, who has collected a bunch of big names to cut a duets record with him. The first thing that struck you when you look at the record is the list of guest artists with the likes of Bruce Springsteen , John Bon Jovi, Metallica, Jackson Browne and Amy McDonald, with more, it at least makes it an interesting record.

And it works too, better than duet albums usually do. Ray Davies succeeds to blow some fresh air into his The Kinks classics and the guesting stars adds a nice spice to it. I especially loved Days/This Time Tomorrow, Long Way From Home, Waterloo Sunset, Dead End Street

Then again songs like You Really Got Me (with Metallica) could work for somebody else with it's hard rock version, but personally I thought it was a little bit over the top, and didn't actually fit in at all in the rest of the album. You Really Got Me, is probably the weakest link on the album but there are also other songs that doesn't work that good. But it's still a very enjoyable piece of work, even for a casual listener, and a must buy for a fan.
