The title of the album already tells a lot, it is an album by Brian Wilson filled with covers and remakes of the Gershwin brothers. The project started when Walt Disney Records asked Brian Wilson to make a record with them consisting of covers from popular Disney movies. Wilson then came up with the idea of making a record with only material by the Gershwins' Ira and George.
The album's sound is kind of weird, it's hard to exactly put your finger on it but it basically sounds like a mix of Beach Boys, Broadway musicals and doo-wop. I'm not saying this in a bad way, but it definitely is an interesting combination... I think the reception is very individual in this case. At times it sound as something they would play in an elevator, at other times it almost sounds like an Beach Boys California Girls all over again, and at others like a rock n' roll record.
I really had hard times to figure out what to say about this record, and all I can say is you have to check it out for yourself, it is worth at least as an experience. Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fans should of course also check this album out, it's not something you stumble over every day.
3/5
