Review: Phil Collins - Going Back

The new Phil Collins album is all about classics, to be more precise classics from northern USA, Detroit, from the 60's, yes you've guessed it, Motown!
The case is not at all as the Metro Newspaper headlined here in Finland said, Phil Collins doesn't bother to come up with new material. This is a nice tribute record to the Motown music.

The record consists of hits and a little less known Motown tunes. Immediately when you start listening to the record and the first tunes comes out of your speakers, you can tell it's a well done record. The whole feel of the record is Motown, the singing, the instruments, the mixing even a bit the looks with the black & white photo of young Phil Collins. If I didn't know better I could very well be fooled to thinking this actually was recoded back in the 60's in the very same studio as Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations with others played, recorded, made history. Phil Collins maybe didn't do history with this album, and I don't know how many spins I will give it, but that doesn't change the fact that it is a bloody damn good record!
